Hidden Intentions

All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart. (Proverbs 21:2)

…“You’ve got to be outta your cotton-picking mind if you think that I am going to let the likes of you marry my son! You may play your men for fools, honey, but you sure to hell ain’t about to play my son!”
            “Excuse you?”
“You heard me right the first time. You may have figured you had my son all tied up by throwing him this line of being pregnant. But if for one moment you think that your little pregnancy entitles you to become part of my family, you better think again, honey!” Lorna sat back in her chair, triumphantly, swirling her drink.
“You know, you’re truly an amazing piece of work!”
“And you haven’t seen the best of me yet!”
“Lorna, as far as I’m concerned, this meeting is over.” Sandy had heard enough.  She thought it would be best she made her exit now rather than risk the rising tension getting the better of her emotions. She stuffed her files into her suitcase and pushed back her chair to stand.
“You think I went through all of this trouble to exchange pleasantries with you?  I’m sure you know me much better than that.  No, Sandy, the purpose of this meeting is so that I can make you an offer you can’t refuse. Trust me, it will be good for the baby!”
Sandy paused immediately on the mention of her unborn baby.  She could feel chills going down her spine.
             “What are you talking about?”
“See, I knew that would get your attention.” Lorna had the last of her drink and ordered another.
“Get to the point, Lorna, or I’m outta here!” Sandy demanded.
“Okay then, I’ll make this short and simple. I want you out of my son’s life.” Lorna stared at her coldly. “The sooner, the better!”
Sandy shook her head. This woman did not know when to give up, did she? Angie’s warning was coming to fruition.  Lorna was not about to give up without a fight.
“So, Sandy, what will it take? Name your price.” Lorna reached into her purse and pulled out her checkbook.
“You’re kidding right?” Sandy challenged, angered by Lorna’s actions.
“Well, you were informed that this was a business meeting.  So let’s get on with the business at hand, shall we?” Lorna pulled out her pen and opened her checkbook slowly.
“I don’t believe you! You think that you can just offer me money and I’d give up your son?” Sandy still could not accept the nerve of this woman.
“C’mon, be for real Sandy, everyone has a price. What’s yours? What about fifty thousand now,” Lorna started to write. “And fifty thousand when you break it off.  Deal?”
“Who the hell are you? And who the hell do you think I am?”
“Should I add more zeros?”
“Look bitch I’m not negotiating, okay! And just so you know, I’ll be marrying your son whether you like it, or not!” Sandy pushed back her chair from the table.
“You don’t want to do this, Sandy,” Lorna warned.
“Lorna, for your information, you couldn’t buy me even if you tried.  I’m not for sale.” Sandy started walking away then paused looked over her shoulder and added.
“So, you’d better get used to me being part of your family, ‘cause as long as Damon wants me in his life, there is nothing you can do about it!”
“We’ll see about that, Sandy,” Lorna chuckled deviously picking at another appetizer from the sampler.
“Bring it on, then!” Sandy countered, as she strode out of the room, shoulders defiantly high.  She was slightly ruffled, but happy she had held her own against the formidable Lorna.
“Bring it on, huh!” Lorna mused to herself, as hours later, she pored over photos of the past meeting with Sandy, captured by her hired private investigator. They were absolutely perfect.
That Sandy did not have a clue with whom she was dealing.  Nobody and I mean nobody resists my demands.  If it is a fight she wants, it’s a dragdown dirty fight she’ll get.  No one takes me on.  I’ll chew her sorry arse up and spit it out!
Lorna was not quite sure how she intended to use the pictures, as she reviewed the different frames capturing the various angles of their earlier interaction, but she was sure she would find a way.  Pretty soon.  She collected the photos and stored them away. With a little planning and some creativity, she was sure she would be able to pull off something.  One advantage she had was she knew her son inside out.
